How long have you worked at CSG? 5 years
What's your favourite part of the job?
The relationships I have built with my co-workers, the owners, their affiliates and the supporting staff in our offices. I am not from Windsor and the company that I had been working for moved the facility to Chatham so quite a number of my previous coworkers were displaced and started careers here at CSG. Now I feel like I am at home when I come to work, it is like being part of a really big family. You can’t often build that in a work environment.
What's the most challenging part of the job?
Being part of the Social Committee is probably the most challenging but it is also the most rewarding part of my job. It looks fun and easy but it’s lots of volunteer time, planning, researching, meetings and the decisions can be tough. It makes it that much more gratifying when something goes really well or we meet or achieve our goals. CSG really does think locally but act globally which is very important to me. They support many local community charities but also have a long standing relationship in improving the quality of living in other parts of the world. They make me proud and sometimes I am overwhelmed with emotion by the generous donations that employees make and the company contributes to. "Windsorites" continuously surprises me at how much they pull together when someone is in need.
What skills have you learned at CSG?
Through the paid training program I have earned licences to work in Ontario as a personal lines auto, home and travel insurance broker. That licence also allowed me to be able to service insurance needs in other provinces from right here in Windsor, ON. I have also begun to earn licences that are not a requirement for my position but are available to me for continuing education. I am very excited about the reimbursement program for continuing education for approved courses that is available.
What makes CSG different from other places you’ve worked?
Job security. Insurance is a mandatory requirement that will never be a passing phase or dwindle in popularity. CSG is a company that is committed to growth and is always developing new ways to service the industry that we are in. They continue to grow and offer employment and advancement for myself and all of the people I have referred into employment here. Also, CSG is committed to building and keeping the jobs here in Windsor/Essex while other companies are moving it away from Windsor.
What is the work culture like at CSG?
The culture of CSG is one of constant innovation and development. They have a clear idea of where the industry is going and they know how to stay ahead of it. Not only are we growing as a company but we are making changes in the industry itself. It is so exciting and inspiring to see so many people building their careers; making advancements and achieving promotions. It inspires me to keep growing and learning as well.
What advice do you have for young professionals looking to stay in the Windsor-Essex area?
This is a town with some very talented and untapped potential on an international border with fantastic travel options including trains, planes and buses. I chose Windsor for it's similarities to the Niagara Region and its proximity to an international border because I like to travel. The real estate costs are a fraction of what I am used to seeing which is amazing. But as a person who moved to Windsor and knew no one on arrival, I can attest to how easily and well you can settle in and build a life here. I hadn’t had any contacts in Windsor prior to moving here but from my first phone call regarding a rental property until today I have met open, honest and welcoming individuals with a common theme of community and support. The people in Windsor Essex are generous and philanthropic on a level I have never seen. I have seen some major tragedies happen in my life due to weather and accidents but nowhere that I have ever lived has had an entire city respond by organizing and coming to the need of the people directly affected with the speed, efficiency and willingness that I have seen here. I have made friends throughout my years in Windsor which I know I will have for a lifetime many of which were or are now a part of the CSG family. My actual family has since begun to migrate here because they know that I am never leaving.
